The Politics of Identity and the emergence of OpenID
OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity. What does this mean for the supposed social construction of identity, the limits of identity or the fluidity of identity?
The idea of a decentralized virtual space called OpenID raises questions about the nature of identity and how identity comes, becomes, or emerges. Yet, here at WP and other places, the language that is being used around OpenID is the language of an identity that is emerging!
Now, the questions I have around the politics of identity and the identity that is emerging per OpenID is whether all persons [that is, real homosapiens--limiting my question to homosapiens] have access to the act of emergence? Does one get to choose this act? The reason I ask is because historically identity has belonged to Father Culture [over against Mother Nature whereby Mother Nature is understood by understanding Father Culture].
In particular, women have not had access or furthermore the agency to emerge openly. Their identity and IDs have been relegated to Father Culture and controlled by the byproducts of Father Culture: men! Agency and choice have not belonged to women for the emergence of their ID or identities.
What does a decentralized user-centric digital identity mean for the gendered person that is becoming?
