URGENT: Teenage reproductive healthcare
ACTION: We need you to act today. Check below to see if one of the targeted state legislators is yours. If so, he or she needs to hear from you today about House Bill 317.

BACKGROUND: Chicago Foundation for Women is deeply troubled by the Illinois Supreme Court’s efforts to revive an old law requiring young women to notify their parents about their decision to have an abortion or use the courts to bypass the parental notification requirement.

Understandably, parents want to be involved in their teenagers’ lives, and we know that most parents want what is best for their children. But positive communication between a parent and child can’t be mandated by government. And our court system is too overwhelmed, undertrained and underresourced to help thousands of young women in need of immediate services.

You can help. This law poses a threat to the health and well-being of Illinois young women. But H.B. 317 gives minors more options, allowing them to turn to another trusted family member to seek advice and support, and receive quality counseling from caring professionals. Please help.
