Hey, do you know how a person can register for DEVELOPING LIBERATORY RESPONSES TO VIOLENCE or where it is, or any other information about it?

Your blog is the only place I can find any information on this event.

Thanks!

Hey Robyn--I wondered if you would be biking the Drive. Way to go! I've always wanted to do it, but I decided to just focus on preaching this past Sunday! It went pretty well, I think. It was good to experience the process again--and I'm glad it's over! Hope you are well!

On Spirituality.
After a quick reading of your article the following questions came to mind: Your distinction between social life and spiritual life, I felt tends to raise the question of whether spirituality itself can be attained outside a given heterosexual religious system. My feeling is this, if spirituality is above the social, then there is no need for her to have to 'flourish at the margins.' If on the other hand the processes of re-configuring her spirituality is attained within normartive religion, her epistemological negotiations at one and the same time lift her beyond the misogynism of disciplinary theological teaching. If spirituality is a potential space for human liberation at all, it's transformative intra/inter/psychic agency for both women and men should lift them above the crises of normative heterosexism. Indeed,if spirituality exists at all as a human attainment, it must be forged in creative resistance against the deadening effects hegemonic religion. Resisting feminist sprituality must thus be a space, where real and imaginary personal forms of connectivities with human and non-human entities are made.
I have read the notion of 'identity crisis' as crisis of faith in the prevailing heterosexist moral values. In this context my question is this: What is spirituality anyway? How do you measure it? I think that the term has not been properly defined in the literature I have consulted. (See for example J. Derrida's book 'On the Spirit......' in which he problematises the term as applied within the conntext of Western philosophy. Black Womanism and spirituality also came to mind).

I'm always somewhat torn when it comes to Michael Moore. His first film, "Roger & Me" seemed to have very much of the idealistic protest themes of the 1960's and while funny at times, it did a good job of exposing some of things America has failed at.

His later films, however, have been more "sensational" and lack that naivety of his earlier work. He clearly has an agenda with each film, and while I often agree with the spirit of his thematic intentions (agenda), I think sometimes he pushes too hard to make a point and does not treat the other side with enough respect. Though, again I'm torn about even that issue because often his "targets" are clearly in need of being taken down a notch or two and it's nice to see the little guy win one once and awhile (though with $200 million earned from his movies, I wonder how much of a little guy / outsider he really is anymore).

I am looking forward to "Sicko", though I doubt it will match the success of his earlier films. Health care is a major issue, but most people may think it's "too serious" of a topic and not controversial enough for them to show up in mass numbers. I do hope that it will at least set the health care crisis in this country on the national, political agenda in the coming election. The more people who are aware of the state of health and medical care in America, the better.

Typically, I don't like to approve comments that might suggest some sort of misogyny or racism. In this case, I decided to approve Michael's comments, b/c I think there might be a point in all of this. I have questioned whether or not dropping Imus' show violates our 1st amendment or not? I struggle with knowing.

Now, I actually disagree with Michael here in that the language that Imus used WAS racist and sexist. It is true that the language that Imus used is language that is used on the street, but I don't think that the street necessarily humanizes folks! So, I actually think language that dehumanizes and language that is sharp and not inviting might very well be wrong.

The IL Humanities Council is a great organization. It is my sense that this organization democratizes and socializes knowledge in such a way that is inviting for every person.

The language Imus said Is NOT racist or sexist ! Not at all, if it can be said on the street and through other forms of media , than go and ban all of those people and so called RAP people .

Plain and simple Imus got screwed, glued and more, I for one seriously hope that NBC's ratings "Owned by GE" drop through the floor.

You read it hear

Plain and simple abortion should be 200% legal, for the right reason, just because you were negligent does not condone abortion.
