Project IRENE

Information

Greetings to each of you.  I’ll begin with a very brief update. In this first year of the 95th General Assembly, House bills introduced number close to 5000.  Senate bills number close to 1900.  Project IRENE has submitted multiple witness slips on your behalf.

The following bills of interest to Project IRENE have passed the House.

  1. HB 817  Children with Disabilities Special Ed Services Expanded through Age 21
  2. HB 1100  Roadway Safety and Mandatory Insurance Coverage Act
  3. HB 1330  Ensuring Success in School Act For Young Parents,  Expectant Parents, Victims of Domestic or Sexual Violence

The following bills of interest to Project IRENE have passed the Senate.

  1. SB 75  First Offender Probation Act
  2. SB 337  Expansion of “Developmental Disability” to Include Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Effects
  3. SB 1467  Expansion of Civil Rights Act of 2003 to Include “Gender”

As you know, bills that pass the House or Senate must then pass the other chamber before being sent to the Governor for his signature or his veto.

Action

  1. HB 1100  Roadway Safety and Mandatory Insurance Act

Thank you for all your calls to assure passage of this bill in the House.  Reminder:  HB1100 enables Illinois drivers without Social Security numbers to obtain a “Driver’s Certificate” that will allow them to drive legally.  The bill also requires them to purchase auto insurance.  Even though the House and the Senate are not meeting this week and next week, the work continues at the local level.  Please make two calls in regard to HB 1110.  Thank you Secretary of State Jesse White 312  814-6165     or     217 782-2201

Ask him to support HB 1100.  Note:  His office will be doing the work regarding drivers’ certificates and his public support of this bill would be very helpful.  Those obtaining a driver’s certificate will be paying for the costs incurred.

Senate President Emil Jones 773  995-7748     or     217 782-2728

Thank him for his support of HB 1100 and ask him to urge the Senators to support the bill.
